Love, Life, and Dogs

Chapter Twenty-One

Friday-

Brent:
I looked in the mirror, I did clean up nicely. I had just finished getting ready for the prom. Kaitlyn and Becky had been talking about it all week but I knew Sarah didn't want to go for anything. She was upset and nobody really knew why, I figured it was boy trouble again but I never got into her love life so I never knew, guys were dogs. Trust me I knew, I was one.
I walked down the stairs and saw Becky sitting on the couch.
"What are you doing here?", I asked her curiously.
"I have nothing better to do, Kaitlyn already went to the prom with Jb anyway.", she said flipping through the channels on tv.
"I don't have a date but I'm still going.", I said to her trying to put her in a happier mood.
"You're a guy, you can get one easily and I just got dumped Monday.", she said with tears forming in her eyes. You could barely tell they were there but they were.
"Do you want to be my date?", I asked her holding out my hand.
"Really Brent?", she asked with a smile spreading across her face.
"Yes, now let's get you to your house so you can get ready. We have a prom to go to.", I said taking her hand and leading her to the garage.
"What about Sarah?", she asked pulling back a little.
"I'll text her, let's go.", I said pulling her into the garage and towards my car.
"Okay.", she said still smiling.

Sarah:
I had been in bed all week, I was upset at myself. I couldn't believe I had really fallen for a guy like Zack. Every bone in my body was aching and I couldn't breathe sometimes. I felt like I had been in love but was I really? I think I was just being lead on.
My heart and my body were in a war with each other, I was arguing with myself. Kaitlyn and I had panned our Senior prom since we were freshmen and I was missing it because of a boy. Oh well. At least they're having fun. I heard my phone go off but I didn't care to move, I didn't want to move. There wasn't really a point right now.

Zack:
I sat in my car outside in the driveway. I didn't understand myself, yes I was a flirtatious person and I noticed attention but Sarah was different. She knew me but she tested the water, I never wanted to hurt her. I wanted her. She was different, she was a beast tamer and she knew she was. I threw my hands against the steering wheel of my car, I had never missed a girl this much in my life and I needed to fix things but I never made it any further out of my house than my driveway. I honestly couldn't live with myself.

Sarah:
I rolled over and looked at my clock. 8:45. The dance started in 15 minutes, I wanted to move but I didn't I just couldnt move any part of my body. I was frozen in place.

You are just a girl

He's just a boy

You're a smart girl

He's a stupid boy

All a girl NEEDS to do is breathe

You're much stronger than him,

everything inside you is greater and more powerful than anything in the world.

I sat up and looked at the dress from Paris in my closet.
"Let's go to a prom.", I said smiling and standing up.

---------------

I looked at myself in the mirror and I looked like a princess, I was ready. I walked down the stairs and towards the garage, I stopped when I saw headlights outside. I opened the door and recognized them.
"Sarah please listen.", said the familiar voice.
"I'll give you 5 minutes.", I said looking at my cell phone.
"Everything you know about me is right, I am that guy. I know when I'm getting attention and I do flaunt it but, you're different. You're everything I've ever wanted and I've never missed a girl so much in my life. I've never even kissed you and to know that I've barely held you in my arms burns, it's been a short amount of time but everything inside me needs and breathes for you.", he finished with gasping breaths.
"I don't know what to say.", I said out of shock.
"Don't say anything.", he said taking my chin in his hand and pulling me into him. Our lips pressed together and I felt the fireworks, it was everything a relationship's first kiss should be, it meant something.

Kaitlyn:
I saw Becky walk into the gym with Brent and I was shocked, I had never thought of them together as a couple but they did look cute together. I smiled and kept dancing with Jb. I still missed Sarah, she needed to be here. Becky came running over to me.
"Sarah's coming tonight!", yelled Becky.
"She's coming to prom?", I asked astonished.
"Yes!", yelled Becky.
I screamed in excitement, everything was just as planned.

Sarah:
I walked into the gym doors and saw the gym covered in ballons and ribbons, the music was loud and there was a smile plastered on everyone's face. It was like stepping into a dream. Zack wasn't exactly allowed to be here but nobody noticed so nobody cared. I found Kaitlyn and Becky and we were all dancing in the middle of the gym.
Take me home Tonight By: Eddie Money came on and we all sang along.
"Take me home tonight!", we all sang as loud as we could. We were all having a good time, we all danced with each other.
Aaron, Brent, Collin, Jb, Leo, Zack, Becky, Kaitlyn, Taylor and I all stood over the emblem of a bobcat in the middle of the gym and danced, we were all happy and having a great time, our night was complete.

---------------

The night started to come to a close and I took Zack's hand. Every senior vanished after the prom and went who knows where. It was a party night and everybody knew it. I took Zack's hand and followed him to his car.
"Where to princess?", he asked me when I got in.
"Your house.", I said happily.
"You sure?", he asked laughing.
"Always am.", I said running my hand across the skirt of my dress. We pulled into his driveway and I got out of the car stumbling towards his front door.
"You act like you're drunk sweetheart.", he said holding me up.
"I feel like it.", I said laughing. We walked in the front door and I slipped off my heels and dashed up the stairs to his room.
"Where are you going?", he asked sitting down on his bed.
"To change.", I said walking into the bathroom. I took off the huge dress and put on one of shirts. I opened the door and walked out.
"Very nice.", he said smiling.
"I know, I'm an artist.", I said with the same smile still placed on my cheeks.
"Come here.", he said picking me up in his arms and kissing me. I laughed and squirmed like a little girl.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Kaitlyn:
I woke up in my room and the light coming from outside burned, I didn't want to get up or move at all. I walked downstairs and saw my mom sitting on the couch.
"How many weeks mom?", I asked walking to the kitchen.
"21 going on 22.", she said shifting around on the sofa.
I opened the fridge and pulled out some juice.
"How was your night?", asked Collin walking in and sitting at the kitchen table.
"You were at the same prom I was Collin, you'd know.", I said sitting down with my juice.
"I mean after.", he said looking at me.
"Why do you need to know?", I asked looking at him suspiciously.
"Just want to know.", he said back.
"I was with Jb, nothing special.", I said to him.
"Don't lie!", yelled Collin.
"I'm not lying Collin.", I said calmly.
"Seriously?", he asked in disbelief.
"What were you expecting?", I asked as I walked out of the kitchen.

Sarah:
I woke up in sweat pants and a shirt, I felt an arm wrapped around me, I knew it was Zack and I closed my eyes soaking up the feeling I had with him. I didn't want to move but I had to go home tomorrow, it was our last week of school and I couldn't miss it.
"Are you awake sweetheart?", he asked in a groggy tone.
"Yes.", I said back softly.
"Do you want to be?", he asked me in his Zack tone.
"Nope, I'm going back to bed.", I said closing my eyes and cuddling against him.
"I'm good with that.", he said relaxing and drifting back to sleep.

Becky:
I was at Sarah's house, I recognized the cinnamon and cranberry scent that only Sarah's house had. I looked up at the ceiling and sighed, it was Brent's room. It was normal to wake up in your prom date's room, that's how it always happened. Brent was mature we didn't do anything wrong.
I got out of bed and walked to Sarah's room hoping she would be in there. I peeked into her room and didn't see her. She was with Zack again!
I forgot about it and walked downstairs. Jaylen was on the couch watching cartoons and I heard Kate in the kitchen. I loved Sarah's house, every room had a different theme and the paint on the walls and went together, I would just sit in the different rooms and look at the colors, I was so fascinated by them and I never really understood why.
"Hey Becky.", said Kate coming into the dining room.
"Hi Kate.", I said smiling.
"You were Brent's date last night I hear.", she said smiling.
"Yes I was.", I said with a grin on my face.
"Did you have fun?", she asked curiously.
"We all did.", I said back mesmerized in the colors of their dining room.
"I'm glad. Are you hungry dear?", she asked me.
"Yes, please.", I said following her into the kitchen.

Chapter Twenty-Three

Monday-

Sarah:
I took my shower and got changed into my clothes. It was our last week of school and I was having mixed emotions. Was I ready for college? I walked downstairs and saw my mom with Jaylen.
"Your last week of high school, how does it feel?", she asked smiling at me.
"Really good.", I said grabbing my keys off the hook and walking into the garage. I got in my truck and drove to school, I met Kaitlyn in the parking lot with Becky. I smiled and I knew they were having the same emotions as I was. Graduating High School.
We all walked into the school building and to our classes. Everyone was happy, summer was almost here. The Seniors weren't exactly cheering, this was the next stage of life and some of them weren't ready you could see it in their eyes. I didn't even know if I was ready yet.

Friday-

Kaitlyn:
The tears started to form in my eyes as I drove to school. I had been waiting for this day since my Freshman year and now I wanted to reverse time. I didn't want to become a true adult, I wanted to still be a kid but I had to grow up. Part of me wanted to grow up and another part wanted to freeze time and live in the moment for a little longer.
I pulled into my parking space for the last time, I locked my car and looked at the school for awhile, I wouldn't see this school for a long time.

"I'm going to miss you Paradise High. Even if I hated you at times, you did make me into what I am and for that I thank you. Even though I want to leave, it still doesn't feel right. I'll miss you high school.", I said in a low whisper.

Sarah:
I found Kaitlyn and she was looking at the school. We were all thinking the same thing, none of us wanted to go. Nobody wanted to graduate, everybody wished they could be a kid forever. We all had to grow up and it was now or never.

"I'll miss you Paradise High. You were my hell and sometimes my heaven but I know the memories I have here will stay here. I loved my time here and hated it too but now I wish I could relive it all.", I took a deep breath and walked over to Kaitlyn.

Becky:
I sat in the car, I was parked to where I was facing the front of the school. This is probably the time where I should say something but I never loved this school. I remember everything that happened inside and outside of this school and most of it was horrible and the rest, I just had to live with.

"I'll miss you Paradise High. I know I hated almost every minute here but it got better and better every year. Freshman year was terrible. Sophmore year was better. Junior year was great. Senior year was and still is amazing. It's everything I expected it to be. What happened here shaped me into what I'll become.", I put my hands on the steering wheel and breathed. I finally opened the door and walked over to Kaitlyn and Sarah.

Chapter Twenty-Four

Sarah:
My phone started to ring so I quickly answered it.
"Hello?", I asked. I hadn't looked to see who it was.
"Hi Sweetheart, it's Zack.", he said in his familiar tone.
"Hey. I was just about to call you.", I said in an excited tone.
"I need you to come over, I need to talk to you.", he said seriously.
"Is everything okay?", I asked concerned.
"I'll tell you everything when you get here.", he said in flat tone.
"I'll be there soon.", I said before hanging up. I grabbed a jacket from my closet and dashed down the stairs.
"Where are you going Sarah?", asked Brent looking at me as I reached the end of the stairs. I ignored him and walked into the garage. I started my truck and pulled out of the garage hurrying over to Zack's house. I finally pulled into his driveway behind his car and got out, he met me at the front door.

"There you are.", he said smiling. I could tell it was a fake smile.

"What's going on Zack.", I said taking off my jacket while walking inside the house.

"I need to tell you something.", he said closing the front door.

"I figured that, now what is it?", I asked becoming impatient now.

"It's an intense subject sweetie, please sit down.", he said with pleading eyes.

"I can't, I'm worried.", I said pacing around the living room.

"I understand.", he said quietly.

"Please, tell me!", I said with slight tears forming inside my eyes.

I didn't know what to expect and so many things were running around in my head. I was scared and I didn't mean to yell, it just came out that way.

"I'm going into the army.", he said looking down.

"What?", I said with my knees beginning to cave in. I couldn't stand and I felt the tears coming rapidly now.

"I have to, it's my duty.", he said in an emotionless tone.

"No, you can't go!", I yelled falling on my knees.

"Please don't do this Sarah. I don't want to go, I wish I could stay here with you but, I leave in a few weeks and I need you to move on.", his tone was still flat as he spoke. He just kept looking to the ground.

"Why do I have to move on?", I said in a confused and upset tone.

"What if I don't come back?", he said finally looking up at me and I saw the tears starting to form in his eyes.

"I don't want to think that way.", I said calmly.

"I know but, what if?", he asked me standing up slightly.

"I'd die.", I said in a slow tone.

"You wouldn't and I'm not going to let you die, don't you dare say that.", he said holding my head up.

"What else would I do?", I asked looking into his eyes. They were just as tear stained as mine now.

"Sarah, everything you know about me is true. I'm a flirt and I know for a fact there is someone better for you and I want you to find them, we're not meant to be together.", he said still holding my gaze.

"Tell me you don't really mean that.", I said offended at what he had just said.

"I wish I could, I love you.", he said softly.

"Don't tell me you love me, you lied to me this whole time!", I yelled with anger starting to bubble inside me. I pulled away from his grasp and turned around, I didn't know what to do I wanted to take my anger out on something but there was nothing around. I noticed a picture of me on the table by his couch.

"I do love you, why do you think I gave you my full attention?", he said turning to face me.

"To play me just like all the rest.", I said in a furious tone.

"You're right, I played you Sarah.", he said leaning against the wall. I didn't know what to say so I took the picture of me on the end table and threw it against the wall opposite of him. He tensed and looked at me with confusion in his eyes.

"Now I'm released from your perfect picture frame.", I said flatly and emotionless.

I walked back to the hallway and out the front door. He didn't come after me and I didn't expect him to. I sat in my truck and finally put the key in the ignition.
I was shocked but I wasn't upset anynmore. I didn't exactly know what to do, everything was confusing right to me and all of me felt disoriented. Before I could really think my phone started to go off.

"Hello?", I barely managed out.

"Alessandra is going into labor!", yelled Kaitlyn. I jumped back into reality.

"She's only 22 weeks along?", I said in a panic, everything that had just happened seemed to vanish.
"I know but she's going into labor naturally and the doctors have no choice, it's time!", she yelled and then hung up.

---------------

I ran into the waiting room and found everybody else. Aunt Carrie was with Evan and a boy that looked as if he were Evan's son. Becky's whole family was there and Taylor was there with Leo and my family was already there with the rest of them.
"Sarah!", yelled Becky running over to me and hugging me.
"Hey.", I said hugging her back.
"I can't believe she is going into labor this early.", said Becky with worry in her eyes.
"With twins, I don't know if they'll live. It's too early for them.", I said looking at everyone else.
"I'm not sure if they'll live either.", said Carrie in a sad tone of voice.
"Auntie who's that?", asked Becky curiously as she always did. She was pointing to the boy that looked like Evan.
"Oh this is Evan's son, Kaden.", she said smiling and pulling him up from the chair he was sitting in.
"Kaden this is my biological niece, Sarah.", she said smiling and waiting for us to shake hands.
"Hello, I'm Kaden.", he said smiling and pulling me into a hug, I wasn't uncomfortable or anything I just hugged him back. His chest was warm and his arms held me tight against him, I felt comfortable and wanted.
We hugged for a little more time than necessary, nobody seemed to really notice.
"This is my niece Becky, Sarah's best friend. We aren't biologically related.", said Aunt Carrie laughing slightly. They hugged but this time it was shorter than mine had been. I was curious about him, he was cute and I know I had literally just been in a fight with one boy but, that never meant I couldn't test the water. Zack and I never did date for the record.

---------------

Kaitlyn came running down the hall and when she finally reached us she was out of breath. We all stood up anticipating what she was about to say.
"She delivered them but, they're having complications just as we expected.", Kaitlyn finally managed out inbetween breaths.
"What are their gender?", asked Melinda from behind us.
"Boy and Girl. Ava and Jason.", said Kaitlyn catching up with her breathing now.
"Is one healthier than the other?", asked Aunt Carrie curiously.
"Jason is stronger than Ava but that's how fraternal twins usually are.", said Kaitlyn willing to answer all questions.
"Are they going to know anything more by tonight?", asked Matthew from behind the crowd of us.
"Tonight they should know more but, I don't think you all want to stay around that long.", she said smiling.
"Well I'm staying, I have nothing else to do.", I said laughing.
"Great!", said Kaitlyn smiling and hugging me.
"I'm staying too.", said Becky joining the hug.
"Evan and I don't have anything planned so we're staying too.", said Aunt Carrie hugging Kaitlyn.
"Are you sure?", Kaitlyn asked as she pulled away.
"Yes, of course.", said Evan smiling and sitting back down next to Carrie. Everyone ended up staying except my parents, they needed to go home and take care of Jaylen but said they'd be back in the morning.
We moved the chairs into a circle and made the waiting room into our own area, it was our little group in a circle talking. The nurses brought us some blankets and pillows to sleep on and we set up beds for everyone.
Out of nowhere I started to feel the chills, it was always cold in hospitals, I huddled under a blanket with Becky and soon everyone started to drift to sleep. Becky finally fell asleep and it was just Kaden and I awake.
"Looks like we're the only ones up now.", I whispered looking at everyone asleep on the ground.
"I know, they all just crashed suddenly.", said Kaden smiling at me again.
"Wanna go somewhere?", I asked curiously.
"Sure, where?", he asked me back.
"It's a surprise, come on.", I said smiling and standing up. He stood up and we quietly walked out of the hospital's waiting room and started walking towards my truck.
"This is your truck?", he asked confused.
"Yep, this is my baby.", I said happily.
"I wouldn't expect you to be the kind of girl to drive a truck.", he said laughing slightly.
"I love race cars but my truck is my life.", I said smiling and stepping up into the cab.
"It's really nice.", he said running his hand along the interior.
"It's my main priority.", I said hugging the steering wheel causing him to laugh at my childish side.
"Never seen a girl take so much pride in her vehicle.", said Kaden looking at me in a congratulating way.
"Thank you, I try.", I said while starting the truck.
"You're doing a great job, the engine sounds brand new.", he said with wide eyes.
"When it comes to the engine I try the best I can but I leave it up to my dad and my brother, I true them a little more than my blonde self.", I said looking up innocently.
"It's a guy thing.", he said touching my shoulder.
"Yea, I know.", I said backing out of the parking spot and turning onto the main street. It was almost deserted.
"Where are we going?", he asked with a smile on his face.
"I told you, it's a surprise.", I said happily turning into the shopping center.
"Is it food?", he guessed quickly.
"Yes.", I said while parking.
"Good, I'm starving."
"You and me both Kaden.", I said laughing and turning off the truck. We walked over towards the grocery store but turned and went into LaComida. The best mexican restaurant around.
"I've never been here before.", he said looking around like a lost boy.
"Trust me, it's delicious and very worth it.", I said sitting down at a table across from him.
"I trust you.", he said smiling and taking a menu.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Brent:
I woke up in my bed like any other normal day and I tossed and turned. I didn't want to crawl out of bed at all. I heard my phone go off, shaking the whole end table by my bed. I opened the text.

Collin- Check the school website.

I got out of bed and walked over to my desk and turned on my computer. Every year the graduating Seniors had a party at a school approved place. Usually it was at a lake but this year everybody heard it was going to be on Avery Lane. I looked at the front page of the website and sure enough in bold print was the location.

*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*
SENIOR GRADUATION PARTY!
52012 Avery Lane.
6:30 PM - 2:10 AM

All Graduating Seniors are encouraged to come and celebrate their great success, 52012 Avery Lane is the biggest manor on the street and the property owners have been kind enough to let us use their rental home.

Be sure to thank Sarah Hudson, Kaitlyn Ambrosio, Taylor Rivera and Becky Cagle for putting this ghostly event together.

Are you ready to stay at a Haunted Mansion?
*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*--*

I was totally dragging Aaron to this. The evil plans were already devising in my head.

Becky:
I woke up and couldn't find Sarah or Kaden anywhere, I looked around trying to find them but they were gone. I pulled out my phone and looked at my new messages.

Brent- Good Morning Beautiful :)

Aaron- Don't forget about Senior Grad Party

Taylor- Make sure Kaitlyn and Sarah are with you at 3, we need to decorate for the Grad Party tomorrow.

Sarah- Kaden and I went to LaComida last night because we were starving, we're at my house we'll be back in the morning.

I got up and folded the blankets I had used, it was 4am and I wanted to clean up before the main hospital opened at 7. We still had to decorate for the Senior Graduation Party tomorrow. I don't know why they chose for it to be on a Monday but that's just how it worked I guess. I had to round up Kaitlyn and Sarah so we could decorate the house and since Ava and Jason were here and under critical supervision I didn't know if Kaitlyn was really going to be there to help.

Sarah:
My alarm started to go off, I knew I had to help Taylor help decorate today and I couldn't sleep in past 12 today. I had to be ready. Kaden was asleep on the floor and I slipped out of bed and ruffled his hair making him wake up.

"Wakey, Wakey.", I said laughing and walking into my bathroom to change. I put on my jeans with a few holes in them and a blue patterned blouse. When I walked back out of the bathroom Kaden was up and walking around.
"Where do you want me to drop you off?", I asked getting my purse and digging through it for my keys.
"Back at the hospital with my dad.", he said putting on his leather jacket.
"Would you like anything to eat?", I asked being polite.
"No, I'm fine. Thank you.", he said sweetly. I finally found my keys and began walking down the steps with Kaden close behind me. I walked into the garage and climbed into my truck driving to the hospital to drop off Kaden. I pulled into the parking lot, it was emptier than usual because it was Sunday. I stopped in front of the doors and let Kaden get out.
"Can you get Becky, I have to go.", I said tapping the steering wheel.
"Yea, hang on.", he said running inside to get her. Soon enough he came out with Kaitlyn and Becky, they hugged Kaden and ran towards my truck getting in quickly.
"I'm surprised you're coming Kaitlyn.", I said a little shocked.
"I promised to help, Ava and Jason are under a close eye with mom and dad here too. It'll be okay.", she said smiling as I took off down the road towards Avery Lane.
When we finally pulled up. You never saw how big the house was because the front gate by the road was covered in thick bushes. When you pulled in you really saw how big the manor was. It was beautiful and huge, perfect for our grad party but we all knew this was going to take house to decorate completely. Taylor was standing outside talking to a group of students from our school there to help us decorate for tomorrow night. We had allot to do and only a short amount of time to do it in. The party was tomorrow night, we had to work fast or there wasn't going to be a Senior Graduation Party.
"Finally you guys are here. I love you but you know today is our only day to do this. Tomorrow is graduation and right after is the party. We have to hurry.", she said hugging us quickl
y and then pushing us into the house.

---------------

Kaitlyn:
"Taylor!", I yelled out into the hall, I had finished taping the colorful streamers around the border of the room I was in. The mansion was huge but, also very creepy. Sometimes you felt like you were being watched. That was a good thing considering this was supposed to be a haunted Senior Graduation Party.
"Yes, Kaitlyn.", I heard someone yell back. I got down from the ladder and walked into the hall looking for everybody else. I saw a person at the end of the hallway, it was little girl.
"Who are you?", I said loud enough for them to hear me from the other end of the hall.

Silence.

I looked around for a second and when I turned back she had vanished. I felt the chills starting to come over me, this mansion really was haunted.

Sarah:
Kaitlyn came running down the steps into the main entrance as we were all getting ready to leave. Taylor was locking up and making sure everyone was out.
"There you are.", said Taylor watching Kaitlyn run down the steps.
"This place is haunted by that little Avery girl.", said Kaitlyn a little out of breath.
"Obviously.", said Becky putting on her coat.
"Seriously!", she argued.
"Kaitlyn, we know.", I said reassuring her. We had seen Avery too, we knew this place was haunted. Avery had been standing there, she was crystal clear in your vision but she vanished out of nowhere everytime.
"Thanks for telling me, I didn't know this place was really haunted.", said Kaitlyn mad at us now.
"Let's just get home. I'm tired and we have Graduation tomorrow.", I said putting my jacket on and pulling my keys out of the pocket.
"Yea, let's leave.", said Kaitlyn looking around the room for more ghostly activity. Taylor walked the three of us outside and to my truck, as we all got in the second story lights came on. Taylor sighed in frustration.
"What is it?", I asked concerned,
"Avery always does this. She leaves the second story lights on all night and it raises the electric bill a ton.", said Taylor looking up at the windows.
"I see. Maybe if you ask her she'll turn them out.", I said winking and getting in the truck.
"Yea, we'll see.", said Taylor stepping back as I started the engine and pulled away from the house. I started to head over to Kaitlyn's house.
"Are your parents going to be at the graduation?", I asked Kaitlyn.
"I think so, I know my dad will but, I'm still not sure about Alessandra. She hasn't left Ava and Jason since they day she gave birth.", said Kaitlyn gazing out the window.
"Well at least you'll have us and your dad.", I said smiling to give her a boost of confidence.
"High School is over!", yelled Becky throwing her hands in the air.
"Yes!", I said with just as much emotion.
"It's been too long.", said Kaitlyn with a little more happiness in her voice.
